Meet new board member Dr. Paul Rapnicki
Tell us about yourself and your involvement with sustainability.
I’ve dedicated 40 years to the US dairy industry, working as a practicing dairy veterinarian, an academic instructor, a consultant in the animal health industry, and now with dairy farms supplying the Grande Cheese Company. Throughout my career, I’ve championed sustainability by promoting animal welfare, efficient resource use, and minimizing environmental impact. Currently, I collaborate with farms to produce a high-quality, safe, and nutritious milk supply, helping to ensure a sustainable future for the dairy industry.
Tell us why you are committed to Farmers for Sustainable Food and what it means to your organization or farm.
I am deeply committed to FSF and the farmer-led groups because I believe in the power of collaboration to drive meaningful changes in the dairy industry. Working closely with farmers allows us to share knowledge, innovate, and implement sustainable practices that benefit everyone involved. This commitment aligns perfectly with Grande Cheese Company’s values and mission. By supporting this group, we ensure that our supply chain is not only producing high-quality, safe, and nutritious milk but is also focused on long-term sustainability. This partnership is crucial for Grande Cheese Company as it helps us maintain our reputation for excellence while also contributing to a more sustainable and resilient dairy industry.
What are you looking forward to the most in your role as an FSF board member?
I’m looking forward to engaging with a diverse group of professionals who share my passion for sustainability and dairy farming, allowing for the exchange of innovative ideas and best practices.
Why should others join FSF?
Joining this farmer-led initiative provides farmers with access to valuable knowledge and expertise, fosters collaboration to solve common challenges, and offers a supportive community. It also allows farmers to influence industry practices, promote sustainability, and enhance their reputation by aligning with an organization known for its commitment to quality and sustainability. This initiative not only benefits individual farms but also contributes to a more resilient and sustainable dairy industry.

“These projects bring value to our members and partners. Farmers use quality data to measure improvements made from adopting sustainable farming practices and where they can get the most benefit from their investments,” FSF President and co-owner of Cornette Dairy, Paul Cornette, said. “They also help processors and retailers connect with progressive-minded growers who want consumers to know how their food is produced and that it’s produced sustainably.”
“The passion and drive these farmers have to continuously improve is evident through their consistent efforts year after year and LASA’s completion of their project,” Lauren Brey, Farmers for Sustainable Food Managing Director, said. “Both groups aren’t stopping here. They continue to expand on these findings through their new projects within the FSF Climate-Smart Program.”

“Through our ongoing membership and relationship with FSF, we have seen first-hand the organization’s impact on farmer-led groups through its sustainability framework. We are excited to offer this program to our producer partners. This program aligns with our Social Responsibility Pillars, particularly our environmental stewardship pillar, and our commitment to protecting the planet,” said Greg Siegenthaler, Grande’s Vice President of Milk Marketing, Sustainability and Strategic Sourcing.
“Farmers are making remarkable progress in sustainable farming and the data demonstrates their commitment is working,” FSF Managing Director Lauren Brey said. “We are proud to partner with the farmer-led groups in their conservation efforts and recognize the extraordinary impact they have on improving the environment and their local communities.”
